Start with Where You Are
We all have those big dreams- like living in Napa Californa, actually Yontville and being besties with Steven Keller and continuing to teach RD’s how to crush it at business.Ok, that might be my big dream and what I look forward to accomplishing.
In order to get to that big dream and own a private practice, we all have to start with where we are. All too often I have RD’s contact me about their goals to be the next Rebecca Bitzer yet they have not even started their journey of a private practice. I love the excitement and enthusiasm that I see in everyone and sometimes that excitement and enthusiasm get squashed by all those details how to accomplishes those goals. I want each and everyone one of you to achieve your big dreams and beyond and that starts with slowing down to where YOU are not comparing to those around you or in the same industry as you. Comparison and FOMO are real and can be paralyzing!
How to do just that?
Start with your path
Don’t jump to the end of your story till you are ready and have laid the ground work along with your path. What I mean is spend some time to daydream, brainstorm what you want to create for your practice. I give you full permission to take a day off of seeing clients to do just that. Use a day to dream of what you want and write it down on paper. Then I want you to write out to your best of your knowledge the path on how to get there. It’s ok to have holes and blanks as you write it out.
Stay Accountable to your path
Now that you have your path, how will you stay on your path? For me, I had to get real honest with myself and see that I needed help and to have someone hold me accountable to all these HUGE tasks I wanted to accomplish. Asking for help is hard for me because I always like to fancy myself as crazy organized, can accomplish everything, superhero, yet having an accountability partner took my game to the next level. I know that every Wednesday when I call Liz, I better have everything was done that I said I would. There is no penalty physically or monetary, and I gave my word- which to me means a lot.
Celebrate your wins!
As the owner of a practice or the boss of a group, you may forget to stop and give yourself a pat on the back or what I prefer a selfie HIGH FIVE! Recognition of a job well done or accomplishing a big task truly fills up your heart and motivates you to keep moving forward. Each time you finish one of your steps on your path I want you to celebrate. If that is a treat that you love or a selfie high five you will notice how it will make you smile and keep you focused on the next step in your BIG dream plan.
Hope today’s tips help you to own your big dreams and continue to know you will get there when you stay on your path without feeling distracted by others around you.
