Before I was a dietitian I wanted to become a dancer and live in New York and dance daily. All through high school and in college I trained daily to become the best dancer I could be. I would take class after class. I can’t believe my parents let me drive across town as a 16-year-old in Houston traffic to take dance classes. I might have been a bit headstrong back then too.
If you want to be good at something you need to start to train in that area. I knew I needed to continue to train and learn as much as I possibly could from as many teachers to continue to grow as a dancer. This mentality continues today, and in today’s blog, I want to encourage you to think about what you are training for?
Study what you want to grow
I want you to think about your big dream/goal in your nutrition carrier and now think about the last webinar you attended or last lecture you went to. Where they in alignment with each other? Are you studying and training to continue to be the best in that area? If you want to be the greatest clinical dietitian, then study more clinical. If you want to be great at business, it is not going to come from the next lecture on the gut-brain-micro webinar. Don’t get me wrong, learning about the new research is important, and if you want to continue to grow in your dream you need to evaluate what webinars, course or lectures you are spending time on.
If you are wanting to crush it in clinical then spend time learning more about clinical care and how best to educate clients and build trust in a short amount of time. And if you are wanting to start a private practice and truly live in your purpose please start learning the business side so you will feel confident and successful.
Here are a few areas you might want to think about if you are wanting to learn more about business:
- Marketing- print, media, and community
- Business Analytics
- Branding
- Profit & loss
- Social Media and content creation with management
- Administration
- Legal
- Accounting
If you have not begun to learn about business start TODAY!! Yeah – you are reading this blog post- great job. Now I want you to go one step further with your education and learn more. Maybe that’s a podcast about business, or a new course by the iLiveWell Business Academy, or some of the great education by Margie Geiser . The bottom line is start training in your purpose TODAY
