Last Friday I had an amazing lunch with my Mastermind group and one of the original members of the group who started back in 1984, John Henry McDonlad. John Henry shared his inspiring story and so many words of wisdom. Each of where hanging on every word he shared and wanted this lunch to continue on all day. I took away so much from that lunch and will share it over time.
Flipping Your Mindset
The number one takes away for me of this meeting was shifting my mindset upside down. What I mean by this, is all too often we feel that we need to be hustling and cashing money in order to be successful. Don’t get me wrong, we are doing this work to make a profit, and in order to have finical success, it needs to start by flipping your mindset.
Start by working on YOU and how you view yourself and your heart. In this line of work we are to be caring for others and guiding them towards their goals and health, yet how can we do so when our hearts, minds, and souls might not be in alignment.
Intentions vs Motivation
During the lunch, John Henry talked about the difference between motivation and intentions. He said, ” Motivation is driven by fear. Intentions are driven by your spirit.” That was powerful for me. When you think about your spirit or your soul, and why you are working towards your dreams of a practice or another goal that feels me feel more alive and excited that the motivation of a fear!
What would it be like for you to write out all the feelings of what it would be like to walk into your practice right now? Can you imagine the how the office looks, smells, feels? When you think about working with a client are you just smiling so big because you are so excited to be working in exactly the way you want to be? Be inspired by those feeling and use that as your driving factor and just see what can come your way.
I believe in Myself
I define my version of success and am free to pursue it as I please, that is another lesson we learned over lunch. Success to me may look very different to success for another person. Yet not having a clear picture of success for yourself can be hard to know where you are going. Do you have a vision board? It’s ok if you don’t or have never heard of that. During lunch John Henry showed us over the 30+ years of magazine or newspaper cuts out he has collected that spoke to him and eventually became his reality. He explained by saying how when he is reading a magazine or article and something catches his eye or bring up a core feeling he cuts it out and tapes it to his intention book.
It doesn’t matter what others believe for you, it only matters what you believe for yourself.
No regrets. Happiness. Joy. Fulfillment. These are within my reach because I say they are, and I’ve built a life based on the belief and feelings that I can do it with persistence.
Take away on Shifting Your Mindset
You need vision and you need to know the feeling behind the vision
You need a big picture and a step-by-step plan to be persistent in your intentions
You need to know your intentions
You need alignment in your heart, soul, and mind towards your dreams
Thank you for thinking about shifting your mindset upside down as you work towards your goals. Y’all mean so much to me and I am honored to share this story with y’all!
Love Y’all,
Adrein
