We are branching out here at iLiveWell Nutrition in Austin to add in mental health services! We are so excited to welcome Cristy Pierce, PsyD, LP, BCBA to our team!
She will be seeing clients a few days a week and is now accepting new clients! Book a session with her today by clicking here.
We sat down with Cristy to get to know her even more and, of course, had to share with you this fun interview!
iLW: Where did you go to school? What degree(s) do you hold?
Cristy: I went to undergraduate school at Austin College. It is a small, liberal arts, private school in Sherman, Texas. I earned a bachelor’s of arts in psychology, with a minor in biology. I went to graduate school at the Georgia School of Professional Psychology in Atlanta. It is a for-profit grad school. There I earned a doctorate in psychology (PsyD) in health psychology.
iLW: Describe your best day ever.
Cristy: Sunday’s are my favorite. Wake up at 7 am without an alarm. Get up slowly and have a leisurely breakfast. Become productive around 9 am and get stuff done around the house. Spend time with my husband and two children in the afternoon, preferably outdoors. Grill for dinner and have a relaxing evening.
iLW: If you had a super power, what would it be?
Cristy: Balance…balancing work and family, balancing gratitude and capitalism, balancing all of it!
iLW: How would your best friend describe you?
Cristy: She would say I’m loyal to a fault. This also translate into being dependable, trustworthy, and supportive, too.
iLW: If you were on a dessert island and could take only three foods and one book, what would they be?
Cristy: Assuming I don’t have to worry about refrigeration, prepping and cooking, I’d bring steak (rare), brussel sprouts (roasted), and peanut butter chocolate candy (yum!). I’d bring One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. It’s one of the few books I’ve read multiple times.
iLW: As a psychologist what do you wish everyone knew?
Cristy: I wish mental health was a priority on an individual and societal level. I know some people know that it’s important but I wish everyone acted like it and valued mental health services.
iLW: Who is your role model and why?
Cristy: My mom is my role model. She’s who I’d like to emulate. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly why but she’s a strong, smart, independent woman whose been successful in balancing work and life and still enjoys life.
iLW: Where is your favorite vacation place?
Cristy: That’s hard to say. I think the people that are with you are more important than the destination, so then I’d say I want to vacation with my family and with my friends. Doesn’t matter where.
iLW: What do all those letters behind your name mean?
Cristy: My signature line includes the letters PsyD, LP, BCBA. That means I earned a doctorate in psychology and I’m a licensed psychologist and board certified behavior analyst. I completed the highest level of education for a mental health service provider, am licensed in Texas to practice independently as a psychologist, and completed additional training in behavior analysis.
iLW: If you had Aladdin’s lamp and the genie granted you three wishes, what would they be?
Cristy: Can I ask for more wishes? Okay, but really…
- A good night’s sleep.
- More time in the day.
- Health and safety for my loved ones.
iLW: What do you like to do for fun when you are not seeing clients?
Cristy: Spend time with my family. I have two young children. Most weekends we are out adventuring somewhere and exploring the great outdoors.
iLW: Why did you choose to become a psychologist?
Cristy: I love hearing people’s stories. It’s fascinating to hear how humans are similar and yet the details of every person’s story is different. It’s also wonderful to witness how everyone’s story changes and evolves over time.
