Happy New Year!!! Hope you had a wonderful New Years Eve and holiday season. This time of year is filled with so much fun and excitement that it can be hard to contain all the anticipation of what’s to come. For most of us, we are in the industry of health and helping and I am sure you are sick and tired of hearing about New Year’s Resolutions. To me, they now have a negative connotation. What I did last year was choose a word for the year. It was awesome and want to share with y’all some ideas on how to do this for yourself in 2018.
How to Choose Your Word
Choosing one word that’s going to speak to you for the whole entire year can seem super overwhelming and a little bit scary all at the same time. I want us to come up with a word that evokes joy excitement and everything that you hope to accomplish in 2018. So let’s get started with that.
Thinking about your 2018 write out everything you wanted. Write out all your goals, and if you have not do so look back at this blog post on how to do so. As you go through all your goals notice what feelings they bring about.. Is that feeling something that you want more of in your life?
For example, last year my word was in love. The reason I chose love is I only wanted to do things that I love! I only want to work with a client that I love. I only want to start projects that I love. Also, in my personal life, I wanted to surround myself with people that I truly love and not just tolerate, so choosing a word needs to encompass work, life, and aspirations.
Now that You Have a word…
Now that you have a word what do you do with it? The purpose of having a word just like having the silly New Year’s resolutions is to keep you mindful of what you’re wanting to accomplish and achieve and 2018.
How do you keep this word mindful? Think about your day-to-day life, what do you do currently to stay focused on task or big projects? Or how do you stay mindful of personal goals that you are working towards? You might have a framed motivational quote on your wall, a charm on a bracelet, or a tattoo. Why I am asking this is because having a physical reminder in your life of your word can be powerful.
Now I want you to incorporate your word into your daily routine. What?! You don’t have a daily routine?? Stop reading this blog and read this book NOW! (affiliate link). For those that already have a daily routine- high five! The adding your word into your daily routine may look something like –
-
- Writing it into your daily intentions. Using my word from last year it might look like this:
- I Intend to bring love into each area of my office today.
-
- Today I intend to be loving and kind to all people that I talk to you on the phone.
Adding your word of the year to your daily intentions brings about a sense of mindfulness and living in a more purposeful way.
Once you do have your word picked out I would love to know it so please in the comments below share your word for 2018!
Take Action:
- Choose a word that speaks to you in all that you want to be and do in this upcoming year
- Do something with your word- art, graphic, screensaver, bracelet
- Add your word into your daily practice
