May is Mental Health Month
The focus for this year’s May is Mental Health Month is Risky Business. There are several habits and behaviors that can increase the risk of developing, exacerbate, or be signs themselves of mental illnesses. It is important to educate people about these behaviors, which can include risk factors such as risky sex, prescription drug misuse, internet addiction, excessive spending, marijuana use, and troublesome exercise patterns.
Mental Health America provides tools and resources to help you raise awareness of the risks that these types of behaviors present, especially to young people. These tools also help people who are struggling to detect early warning signs and seek help, before Stage 4.
Check out this fact sheet on risky exercise behavior. When a person exercises too little or too much, it has both physical and mental consequences.
