10 Tips for Setting Your Greatest Goals
This is the only life you have. Are you planning for the best?
As you have gotten to know me over the past few post- y’all know I am totally HOT for organization and planners. The biggest issues I have with planners is they never all quite had everything I wanted in one. So I decided to make my own and this 90 Day Driven Goal planner is what helped me to stay committed and focused to build and create iLiveWell Business Academy.
Let’s talk about goals and how to really set some successful goals this year! Before we set off on this journey together, let me make one thing very clear, the word “goals” can be intimidating. It can feel so overbearing that it keeps people from even beginning the process. Instead, think of goals as a to-do list with deadlines, and what entrepreneur or type A person doesn’t like a to-do list?!Do the deadlines have to be tomorrow? Or next week? Of course not. This is the to-do list for the rest of your life. Goals can be added, subtracted and, most important, scratched off the list as you move through your life.
These deadlines don’t have to be next week or tomorrow- that would be bananas! What I have found that worked amazing for me, was having 1 big thing do in 90 days and each day having 3 tasks to do accomplish that will get me closer to that BIG task.
Here’s a checklist to ensure you’re using a successful framework to create your list/goals:
1. Your top goal must be yours.
All too often, we allow others goals or opinions crowd into our goals. This year make your top goal all yours and truly come from your heart! Not your spouse’s. Not your child’s. Not your employer’s. Yours. When you let other people determine your definition of success, you’re sabotaging your own future.
2. Your goals need some weight.
I don’t mean that silly little scale. I am talking about value, importance to you! Ask yourself “What am I prepared to do, give up in order to make this happen?” Your reasons for choosing a new course of action gives you the drive and energy to get up every morning and CRUSH it!
3. Be specific and measurable.
We have all heard this and I have to agree if you don’t give your goal some boundaries it feels too general and vague Be specific in what you want.
4. Add in some flexibility.
Having some flexibility in your plan allows you to be open to any opportunity that comes towards you.
5. Are you feeling nervous by your goal?
This is YOUR YEAR!! This amazing goal you have should bring up some feelings of excitement and nervous and maybe even some anxiety when writing it down because you know it will challenge you along with being completely and overwhelming exciting the entire time! JUMP out of your comfort zone this year and make this goal happen!
6. Alignment with your values.
When your goal is in alignment with your values it will bring about a feeling of calm while excitement is running right along side you. If your gut is telling you differently then maybe this goal needs to be changed.
7. Support Team
We all get sucked in my our egos and don’t want to share what we are doing in case we fail and look bad to peers. When you are going for this big goal you will need to have a support team that will keep you accountable, boost you up on those long days, and help you celebrate the wins. Choose the supportive family, a business bestie, or come hang out with me! Accomplishing your goal will require a team #Truth!
Next Steps:
Give yourself some quiet time, grab your favorite pen and warm coffee and write down all your goals, thoughts everything you want to accomplish this year. I like to separate personal and professional. Allow your mind to wander and just get all that out of your head without judgment. Open your mind to all the possibilities.
This process might take two hours. It might take two weeks. Don’t stop until you feel satisfied what is on your paper.
Lastly, take action! Either you use my 90 Day Driven Goal Planner or whatever makes you happy and take action on your goals DAILY.
