The days are getting longer, hotter and we are all starting to come out of the COVID hibernation, which can lead to a lot of internal negative self talk about our bodies. That itty bitty, S@%%& committee in our head can have some serious pull even when we have been working on it for a while.
If all the dietitians at iLvieWell could wave our magic wands and fix this for each of you we would, and the honest truth is…. It takes time and practice to trust our bodies when that trust has been missing for a bit. Here are a few tips to help you today to stop fighting against your body, and please check in with your dietitian and make sure of the steps on your journey too.
How do we stop fighting against our bodies?
Be Kind
We all have bodies that we live in daily and this is a different experience for everyone. And as we are all figuring it out (how to be ok in our human suite) what would it be like to be kind? Kind to ourselves and kind to others. Being kind to our own bodies can feel and seem very foreign if you have never tried this before, so play around with a few ideas and see what resonates with you.
- Notice when you are not kind
- Flip the script from negative to kindness
- Just breathe and be
Recognize what your body does that we can’t see
Did you know your body is doing a TON of work without you having to lift a finger? YEP! Right now as you are reading this your body is doing the breathing, blood pumping, digesting, healing, etc. without you having a clue. Millions of biochemical reactions are going on… how freaking amazing is that?!
No matter how negative you may feel towards your body, it showed up for you - it has your back. Body trust can be re-established by eating adequately and regularly, with nourishing, satisfying food our bodies are asking for.
Break up with the itty bitty S%$$* committee
Those negative voices in your mind that pretty much tell you that everything about your body and you is wrong, yep that voice, it’s time to break up with that one! I know it might be hard because that voice sounds so real and honest. How could it be wrong?! Guess what, that is not serving you in the slightest way. It’s time to ditch that negative voice that has not served you!
How?! (I can hear your questions about just how you go about breaking up with that voice!)
Just like any break up it takes some convincing to see how this is not serving you, and takes some courage. What would it be like to ignore or ghost that negative voice> Every time it starts shut off CRAP, you just ignored or blocked it? This will take time and practice, and working with your dietitian can definitely help with even more tools to help you break up with the itty bitty s%$$* committee.
