4 Tips for Mindful Eating over the Holidays

The holidays are synonymous with family, friends, food, and fun. During this time, the average American gains approximately one to two pounds. Research has shown that these pounds tend to stick and accumulate over the years. In preparation for the holidays, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) has prepared an excellent post with 4 tips for how to stay mindful with holiday eating.

  1. Do not skip meals in preparation for a big holiday party or meal as this can lead to overeating.
  2. Include lots of fiber throughout your day by consuming fruits, vegetables, and whole-grains as the fiber will help satisfy hunger while low in calorie.
  3. Use a smaller plate to avoid over eating to encourage proper portion control.
  4. Incorporate some physical activity after dinner, such as playing basketball with the kids or going on a walk with friends or family members.

Thank you, AND, for the wonderful tips! The full post can be found by clicking here.
